Facial Reconstructive Surgery
Facial Reconstruction / Facial Trauma
When an individual endures a traumatic injury, or illness like skin cancer, facial reconstruction is often needed to restore one’s previous appearance. When selecting a surgeon, it is important to compare your options and choose the doctor with the experience and confidence to manage your case.
Only trust your face to a Facial Plastic Surgeon, like Dr. Sunny Park. Dr. Park is double Board certified in both Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery – and Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. She has performed numerous complex surgeries on the face and has spoken at national and international meetings on state-of-the-art surgical techniques for complex facial reconstruction cases.
Skin Cancer Reconstruction / Mohs Surgery
Skin reconstruction is performed after the skin cancer is removed. Candidates are patients with cancer on the skin of the face or neck, which has either been removed or still needs to be removed.
There are many ways to reconstruct any skin defect. Dr. Sunny Park carefully considers all types of reconstructive methods prior to deciding which is best for each individual patient. The decision is based on location and size of defect and the patient’s own unique anatomy. There are a variety of reconstructive methods that Dr. Park uses, including primary closure, local flaps, and grafts.
Recovery after surgery takes about 1 week. All stitches are removed 5-7 days after the surgery. All normal physical activity may be resumed in 1 week. Bruising and swelling vary greatly from patient to patient. Ice or cold compresses are applied for the first few days to reduce swelling. To improve recovery and speed up downtime, Dr. Sunny Park may prescribe her patients oral vitamins and topical minerals before and after surgery.
